Board approves Government Center cabling contract, attorney career ladder and multiple road and bridge contracts

County attorney career ladder: The board unanimously approved a proposed career-ladder for county-attorney support staff (legal assistant I/II and paralegal grades). County Attorney Kathleen Rutder and HR staff said the change is intended to improve recruitment and retention and noted the paralegal classification requires certification or extended experience under the state credentialing guidance.
Roads and bridges: Public Works reported competitive bids on multiple transportation projects. The board authorized awarding a paving/reclaim contract for County State Highway 3 to Knife River Corporation and awarded two bridge-replacement contracts to Redstone Construction after staff confirmed bids were close to engineering estimates. Staff said project preconstruction meetings and public notices to affected residents and schools will follow and that timelines will be shared when pre-construction scheduling is complete.
Planning: The final plat titled "Sunset Village," which combines four parcels into two for a proposed park-model campground, was approved; planning staff noted the campground conditional-use application and any safety comments from MnDOT (appearing in packet as "Mandot") will be handled separately at an upcoming planning commission public hearing.
What happens next: Contracts will be finalized and brought to the appropriate signers; staff will circulate pre-construction schedules for affected districts, and HR will begin implementing the approved career-ladder changes.
