The Dubuque Community School District Board of Education unanimously adopted a fiscal‑year 2025/26 budget amendment at its May 11 meeting to align the current budget with actual expenditures.
Lisa Demmer, the district presenter for the public hearing, told the board the amendment increases three areas of the budget: total support services to reflect bus replacements ordered in the prior fiscal year but paid this year; non‑instructional program costs to cover higher food purchase expenses; and roughly $4.5 million in "other expenditures" tied to project costs at Irving and Eisenhower that were funded with bond proceeds. "This amendment does not change any tax levies, they will remain the same," Demmer said during her review.
No members of the public offered comments during the hearing. After the presentation and a motion to adopt "as published," the board approved the amendment by voice vote.
Why it matters: the adjustment aligns bookkeeping with expenditures and keeps the district in compliance with state budget rules while preserving the district's existing tax levies. Officials said the change is an accounting‑year alignment rather than a new tax request.
The board concluded the public hearing and moved on to other agenda items.
