UPK lottery draws 169 entries (173 spots for twins); parents asked to confirm by May 29

William Boardman, supervisor of special programs, opened the Universal Pre-K (UPK) lottery for the 2026–27 school year and said 169 lottery numbers were drawn, representing 173 available spots because four sets of twins receive the same number.
The lottery determines enrollment and waitlist order for the district’s UPK program. Boardman said parents will receive email notifications within 24 hours and must confirm participation by May 29. He also announced a parent information night on June 2 at the high school auditorium at 6:00 p.m.
"We currently have 169 numbers, which equates again to 173 spots because we have four twins," Boardman said, explaining how the number of drawn entries relates to available placements. He asked parents to watch the screen during the drawing and said the district uses a random sequence generator at random.org to determine order.
"Email notifications will be sent out to parents within the next 24 hours, and we're asking parents to please confirm their participation for next year by May 29," Boardman said.
Boardman said the lottery sequence will be posted on the program’s website within minutes of the drawing once communications staff process the results and post them. He thanked registrar, IT and communications departments and Mason Medina from student support services for their work in preparing registrations and running the lottery.
The session concluded with Boardman encouraging parents to attend the June 2 information night to hear from teachers and ask questions about the program.
