Jersey City council honors local Coptic Orthodox robotics team

The Jersey City Municipal Council on May 20 adopted a resolution honoring Team 10997 from St. George and St. Shenuda Coptic Orthodox Church for its performance in the FIRST Robotics Competition regional events.
Council person Tom Zupa read resolution 26‑286 into the record and the council voted to adopt it unanimously, 9‑0. Members praised the students, mentors and volunteers for achieving a finals finish and earning the rookie all‑star award in their second competition.
Deputy Mayor Kesha Podar conveyed congratulations on behalf of Mayor James Solomon. Coach Corolla Nashed described the team as a multi‑school effort, listing students from Dickinson High School, County Prep, Innovation High School, St. Peter’s Prep, McNair Academic High School and Bayonne High School, and thanked mentors and the church for support. Several student speakers recounted late nights, technical setbacks and mentorship from established local teams that helped them revise their robot and finish second at Mount Olive.
The council invited team members to speak in chambers and took a group photo following the recognition.
