At the May 19 meeting the Planning Department said it is preparing a comprehensive overhaul of Sedro-Woolley Municipal Code chapter 2.90 to simplify and modernize consolidated planning procedures.
Nicole, a city planner, told commissioners that chapter 2.90 has not had a full overhaul since 2008 and contains outdated references (for example, paper-copy submittal tables) that do not reflect current electronic permitting practice. The update aims to align the consolidated procedures with the new comprehensive plan and to make permit timelines and submittal requirements more predictable for applicants.
Staff said the rewrite will touch permitting procedures, public-works standards, the master fee schedule and related administrative documents. City staff indicated they may present an initial draft at the June 16 planning-commission meeting but asked commissioners for patience given the workload.
Commissioners welcomed a phased approach that first addresses high-priority, "low-hanging fruit" items to speed implementation of the comprehensive plan. Staff asked commissioners and interested community members to raise specific process problems they have encountered to inform the rewrite.
