Council recognizes two residents for vehicle-in-pond rescue

At the start of its May 19 meeting, Mentor City Council recognized two residents, Yanni Saras and Carl Boore, for rescuing a mother and her 8-year-old daughter after the driver suffered a medical emergency and her vehicle left the roadway into a retention pond on May 1.
A presenter read letters of recognition describing how Saras entered cold water, opened the rear door and removed the child, and how Boore assisted both victims and brought them to safety and into his heated garage until first responders arrived. The presenter told council the vehicle was later found fully submerged and said the residents’ swift actions “exemplify the true spirit of good Samaritans.”
The council and city public-safety officials formally commended Saras and Boore for their courage and for protecting human life.
