Middletown board accepts budget vote; superintendent cites extra 1% state aid and higher weightings for vulnerable students

Superintendent Amy Ceden told the board there were "just over a thousand voters," one of the district’s highest turnouts, and that the proposed budget passed with 74.25% approval. Ceden said the district expects an additional 1% in state aid in upcoming state aid runs and reported that the state is also providing additional point value for students experiencing homelessness and for English language learners. She said those changes combined "will ensure that we can continue to offer our young people and our school community an excellent academic environment" and that the extra aid should move the district closer to being fully funded.
Board members congratulated trustees who won reelection and recognized those who ran for open seats. Several board members and the superintendent thanked district administrators, staff and community partners for their work during the budget season; the transcript records repeated thanks to the Middletown School Administrators Association and municipal partners.
