Board approves personnel and finance slate; members record exceptions as state preschool grant is rejected

The Edison Township Board of Education approved personnel and administrative/curriculum appointments and passed the finance slate after roll-call votes, while several members recorded exceptions for specific items including a rejected state preschool grant.

During agenda review a motion to take a previously tabled resolution concerning the Talman's property termination off the table was called and failed on roll-call (the motion received four "yes" votes and five "no" votes), leaving the item off the active agenda.

On finance, board members approved the recommended contracts and renewals but recorded dissent or exceptions on two items: one member opposed contract-award item C3, and several members noted opposition to the section that rejected the state preschool grant. In public comment, Adam Glenn of the JCC of Middlesex County urged caution about rejecting the preschool grant, saying the decision "is shortsighted" and warning it could make subsequent state grant support harder to secure.

The finance committee report summarized planned contract renewals, transportation subscription bidding, insurance consultant selection and grant submissions; the committee also discussed facilities items including change orders for John Marshall School.

The board directed administrators to proceed with the approved personnel and operating items; members who recorded exceptions said their votes should be reflected in the record.
