Council members approved a proposed walkathon organized by St. Vincent de Paul to raise funds for the local food pantry, after an on-record presentation describing the event and the population it serves.
Sonia, who identified herself as representing St. Vincent de Paul at the parish, said the fundraiser will map out an approximately half‑mile loop around St. Catherine’s Church and that each walker will seek sponsors based on miles walked. "We serve in average weekly 50 individuals and their families," she told the council, estimating monthly service could reach several hundred people. Anthony Fontanz provided his name for the record as an event contact.
Council action: A motion to approve the event passed, with the condition that the organizer provide a certificate of liability insurance listing the city as additional insured at least 10 days prior to the event.
Why it matters: The event supports a local food pantry that provides weekly food distributions and other assistance for households and individuals experiencing food insecurity. Council conditioned approval on standard risk-management paperwork to protect the city.
What’s next: Staff will expect the organizer to submit the requested insurance documentation at least 10 days before the walkathon; no additional city funding was requested at the meeting.
