City manager previews June budget study session; mayor asks staff to explore QR-driven outreach tools

City Manager William Cook told the Temple City City Council on May 19 that staff are preparing a budget study session scheduled for June 3 and that the city is in a solid fiscal position to invest in services and capital projects.
Cook said the recently passed Measure TC will help the city pursue an achievable and sustainable road-repair program, though he noted rising oil prices present fiscal challenges. He also said the city's conservative budgeting approach over his 12 years as city manager has aided the city's current capacity to invest.
Mayor Prom Chen reported on two conferences he recently attended—one on community choice aggregation as part of his work with the Clean Power Alliance and an international shopping-center conference—and raised an outreach tool presented by Google Jigsaw. The mayor asked staff to assess whether QR-code-driven surveys and virtual engagement tools could supplement traditional outreach for planning processes and other city projects.
Council and staff outlined upcoming meetings and community events, including a joint study session with the Planning Commission on the Crossroads Specific Plan and the Temple City High graduation. Staff said recruitment for youth committee openings is ongoing.
