The Seymour Board of Selectmen approved $70,000 in low SIP funds for 2026 pavement work, voting unanimously to allocate $50,000 for crack sealing and $20,000 for road striping.
Town engineer Brian Estyriac presented recommended road segments for crack sealing and said the department will bring a multi-year pavement plan to the board in July. Members asked the engineer to prioritize striping work and to coordinate with planned repaving projects so funds are used where striping will not be immediately erased by upcoming construction.
Selectman Phil raised concerns that some streets, including Pearl Street, may need full repaving rather than striping and urged staff to consider pipe and paving needs first. The board agreed striping is a safety measure and approved the $20,000 allocation while directing prioritization with the engineer.
During public comment, resident Josh Bogart (29 Maple Street) urged the board to prioritize potholes and to review traffic patterns on Pro Street before spending on striping, saying it could be only a temporary fix if repaving is imminent. The board said engineering staff will assess priorities at an upcoming meeting.
The town will bring more detailed road schedules and prioritization to the board in June and July for further planning and possible reallocation of funds.
