Council authorizes city manager to negotiate settlement in firetruck litigation
Summary
Following an emergency agenda amendment and executive session, Cayce City Council voted to authorize the city manager to negotiate and finalize a proposed settlement in pending firetruck litigation.
Council amended the agenda at the start of the Sept. 17 meeting to include an executive session for attorney–client communications regarding a time-sensitive proposed settlement of pending firetruck litigation. After meeting in executive session, council returned and a member moved that the city manager be authorized to negotiate and finalize settlement terms "as discussed in executive session."
The motion was seconded and council recorded an affirmative vote (Council Members Thomas, Sox, Carter and the mayor voting yes) to authorize the negotiation and finalization of settlement terms. Staff reported no additional public action beyond the authorization; no settlement terms were announced during open session.
Why it matters: The authorization allows the city manager to conclude negotiations on litigation the council determined required expedited attention; because settlement details were discussed in executive session, the council limited public disclosure to the authorization itself.
