Board approves Penn State partnership, Montco dual‑enrollment agreement and exchange‑student provider

At the meeting the board approved multiple items intended to expand academic opportunity and community partnerships.

Teaching and learning items: Mr. Cole presented an agreement establishing a partnership between the district and Pennsylvania State University on behalf of its Hamill Family Human Rights Initiative; the motion passed by voice vote. Mr. Cole said the Penn State partnership will support secondary curriculum work, including efforts to revise reading lists to increase student engagement.

Dual enrollment: The board also approved a dual‑credit and dual‑enrollment agreement with Montgomery County Community College that will let students earn college credit through Monro/Monco courses or by taking designated courses at the high school. Mr. Cole said students will pay the college’s published credit rate for any courses that carry college credit.

Exchange students: The board voted to authorize the Council on International Education Exchange (CIE) as an approved provider for exchange students under board policy; a local CIE coordinator explained the program’s vetting process, background checks for host families, and confirmed hosting families receive no tuition for hosting.

All three items passed after motion, second and voice votes. Administrators said they will provide additional implementation details and cost information where applicable (for example, MCCC’s published credit rate for dual enrollment).
