Judge Peter Sakai administered the oath of office at the Leon Valley City Council meeting on May 19, swearing in Chris Riley as mayor and two newly elected council members.
Mayor Chris Riley thanked residents for their support and said he would work with council and staff to address neighborhood concerns, from traffic to code enforcement. Councilmember Betty Hy, who was sworn in as place two, told the council she is “looking forward to serving as counselor for the next two years” and pledged to listen to all residents. New councilmember Ronaldo Orosco also took the oath and offered brief remarks of gratitude.
The council presented a proclamation honoring Judge Peter Sakai for decades of public service and leadership in foster‑care and court innovation. After the ceremony the meeting recessed briefly for a small reception before regular business resumed.
The swearing‑in was followed by routine council business including a public‑comment period, presentations on planning processes and capital projects, and a series of votes on consent and ordinance items. The council will reconvene on June 2 to continue its agenda and receive appointments for the comprehensive plan advisory committee.
