Councilman Davis moved to approve the consent agenda items — including the April 29 minutes, the monthly financial report through April 30, temporary road closures for a St. Mary’s procession, temporary parking sign coverings near FIS, and Resolution 2026-3044 authorizing application to the Texas General Land Office for beach maintenance reimbursement — with Councilman McDonald seconding. The motion carried unanimously.
Later in the meeting, Chief Hal presented amendments to City Policy 5.29 to create clearer procedures when the city sponsors employees to attend police or fire academy classes. The change requires department-level vetting before the city commits funds, intended to prevent the city from paying for academy training for an individual who later fails to meet departmental hiring standards. Councilwoman Mireles moved to approve Resolution 2026-3045; Councilman Rosso seconded and the measure passed unanimously.
The meeting also included an employee recognition: Deputy Chief Paul Pinson was introduced as the new fire marshal and honored as employee of the month for his inspection work and community engagement.
