Superintendent outlines summer school, graduation and new middle-school opening plans

Superintendent Dr. Truman used his report to thank district staff and leadership, to announce end-of-year schedules and to preview near-term facilities milestones.

Dr. Truman reminded the board that graduation is scheduled for next Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. at the stadium and expressed appreciation for staff and leaders who sustain daily operations. District staff then described summer-school offerings: sessions for credit recovery and additional support will run June 8 through June 25, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon; third-grade reading interventions will be offered at World Primary School.

Administrators and construction staff provided a progress update on the new middle school and invited board members and the public to a site visit and ceremonial program at 9:00 a.m. on June 11 at the new middle school site. District staff said final touches remain and indicated the district is coordinating logistics for an opening ceremony and public access.

Dr. Truman and other administrators also reported on a recent meeting with Head Start about expanding preschool capacity at district sites; they said the district is considering lease and facility adjustments, noted permitting/health-department requirements for early-childhood programs, and described Head Start as a potential partner to increase local pre-K capacity.

Superintendent and board members thanked staff for their work on strategic planning and emphasized continued efforts to secure funding and community partnerships for facility projects.
