Omaha council approves liquor licenses, plats and routine measures; honors 30-year city attorney

The Omaha City Council at its May 19, 2026 meeting approved a series of routine items, including liquor licenses for new and existing businesses, preliminary and final plats, and several tax-assessment ordinances.

Councilmembers voted 6-0 to approve a Class C liquor license for Corner Kick (2295 South 67th Street), a Class D license for Rhino Supermarket and Liquor (6501 Ames Avenue), and an outdoor addition for Good Life Sports Bar and Grill (1501 Mike Fahey Street). A special designated liquor license for Grover Inn (5505 South 42nd Street) for an outdoor concert on June 5 also cleared the council without opposition.

The council considered multiple planning items in grouped votes. Resolutions approving the preliminary and final plat for Elcorn Hills (southeast of 203rd Street and Veterans Drive) and the Preserve Second Edition rezoning and plat were approved by unanimous roll calls. The consent agenda (items 16–20) and combined items 21–31—covering several housing and nonprofit-related measures including support for City Sprouts and a nascent Community Land Trust—were likewise approved by 6-0 votes.

Earlier in the meeting the council presented a proclamation recognizing Bernard Endendijk’s 30 years with the City of Omaha Law Department and designated June 5, 2026 as Bernard Endendijk Day. Endendijk thanked colleagues and family during brief remarks.

Other approved ordinances included amendments authorizing special tax assessments for litter removal and weeds and a municipal code revision on unauthorized ticket reselling; each passed on recorded roll calls. Several items were placed on future agendas as non-action items, and the council adjourned at 3:48 p.m.
