The Lufkin City Council approved on first reading a midyear amendment to the 2025–26 operating budget that updates revenue and expenditure lines based on recent grants, unexpected costs and schedule changes.
Kevin described the amendment as the city’s standard midyear review, noting examples such as grant-funded programs that increase both revenue and expenditures, higher-than-expected software and hardware costs in the IT budget and the cost of a special election earlier in the year. "Each year after the midway point we do an evaluation with our departments and the finance department," Kevin said.
Staff presented a list of significant changes and recommended approval. Council members moved, seconded and voted to approve the ordinance on first reading.
In the financial report that followed, staff noted May sales tax receipts were up 3.58% compared with the same month last year. The city’s fund summaries and proration indicators were available in the council packet and staff offered to answer follow-up questions.
The budget amendment will be incorporated into the city’s accounts as outlined in the ordinance; staff said detailed line-item changes are available in the public packet.
