Council confirms Mark Brantle as Post Falls chief of police

The Post Falls City Council confirmed Mark Brantle as the city’s chief of police during its May 19 meeting.

Council moved and seconded a nomination to appoint Brantle; during roll call Councilmember Stigleer said they would vote no ‘‘not as a reflection of you, Mr. Brantle’’ but because they wanted more public discussion or a council interview before filling major leadership posts. The motion carried with a majority of councilmembers voting “yes.”

After the vote, Brantle took the oath of office, promising to “support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Idaho” and to “faithfully discharge the duties of the chief of police for the city of Post Falls.” In brief remarks he thanked the mayor and council for their confidence and pledged to support law-enforcement staff and the community.

The council did not record further conditions tied to the appointment during the meeting. Councilmember Stigleer’s statement during roll call signaled a desire among at least one member for a more open appointment process; the vote outcome establishes Brantle as chief while leaving the council’s procedural question unresolved.

The council moved on to other agenda business after the swearing-in, and no additional votes or follow-up actions about the appointment were scheduled at that meeting.
