District to roll out Leader and Me program; founder Marielle Summers to keynote opening-day training

District staff updated the board on testing and a planned rollout of the Leader and Me leadership program for staff and students.
Staff said the district is in the final 14 days of the school year conducting KSA testing for grades 3–11 and MAP reading testing for K–1; they reported a brief state-level technical issue that has been resolved. Separately, staff described ‘‘year zero’’ work on the Leader and Me program: district teams have met with Emily (the program coach) and worked with Nolan (the regional lead) to get teachers signed up, build lighthouse teams and prepare training logistics.
The district announced Marielle Summers, identified in the meeting as the founder of Leader and Me, will be the opening-day keynote speaker. Staff said opening day will include a keynote breakfast followed by two days of training: the first day for all district staff (classified and certified) and the second day focused on classroom teachers and certified staff. Staff framed the program as a leadership-culture initiative intended to connect leadership, academics and whole-child development rather than an added burden.
Board members expressed enthusiasm and were invited to attend opening-day events. Staff said they expect to begin implementation with teachers in the fall and will continue to coordinate training and principal-level planning over the summer.
