Working group plans Cheney Field pilot access days, maps community garden access and discusses thermal-energy research

Cheney Field pilot program: Members described a limited, managed-access pilot for the lower end of Cheney Field after construction. The group said the pilot will address parking limits, bus drop-offs, gate management, trash pickup and monitoring. Two candidate pilot dates were cited at the meeting: August 8 and October 10; organizers plan to use those events to test limited access and gather feedback.
Community garden and accessibility: The group reported progress on raised beds across from Dog River Park and discussed features to improve access, including stable mats or corridors for wheelchairs. Members said a volunteer is needed to coordinate the garden and that a sketch of the existing bed layout will be prepared so accessibility features can be finalized.
Thermal-energy and efficiency outreach: The energy committee described exploratory work on a potential thermal-energy network and said Efficiency Vermont conducted building walkthroughs at local businesses to identify energy-efficiency measures and assess interest in shared ground-source heat systems. Members emphasized that the effort is preliminary and depends on who participates, funding, and further technical study.
Other items: The group discussed community outreach via a downtown TDS window display, posters and tri-folds, and raised concern that a kiosk currently sited near the police station could be affected by water-project equipment. Members also noted new police staffing and suggested inviting officers to a future meeting to coordinate detour enforcement during construction.
No formal actions or votes were recorded. Members agreed to follow up with Town Manager Mary Smith about contractor timing, circulate meeting minutes, and share documents and printed outreach materials.
