The Auburn School Committee on May 20 elected Dr. Megan Magillises chairperson and Brooke Wren vice chairperson for the May 20, 2026–May 19, 2027 term and reappointed Mandy Rocco as confidential secretary to the superintendent.
The committee approved four student field trips for 2027: Auburn High School’s trip to Paris and Madrid (April 16–24, 2027); a Quebec City trip (Jan. 14–17, 2027); a fine-arts trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. (April 15–20, 2027); and a ski/snowboarding trip to Jay Peak Resort, Jay, Vt. (March 12–14, 2027). For the Walt Disney World trip, district staff said eligibility for some 8th-graders is tied to participation in extracurricular ensembles (marching band or select choir); staff noted higher sign-ups could reduce costs and allow flights from Worcester.
The committee also approved the Encore student handbook (presented at a prior meeting) and voted to update several district policies listed as EEAA, EEBA, EBC, EDC and EDC-1 after the third reading.
On personnel, the committee appointed Alan Keller, assistant superintendent, to serve as the district Civil Rights Coordinator and as Title IX coordinator for the 2026–27 school year; Keller said, “I accept.”
Business items included committee approval to use $300 from Auburn High School student-activity interest and $300 from Auburn Middle School student-activity interest to pay bonding premiums for activity treasurers and principals.
No substantive public comments were recorded during the public-comment period. The meeting concluded with a motion and roll-call vote to adjourn into executive session to discuss collective-bargaining strategy; the committee did not return to open session.
Next steps: approved trips and appointments will be implemented according to the timelines presented; staff said they will follow up with families on logistics, stipend handling and selection criteria for grade-level eligibility where applicable.
