At its May 18 meeting the Sanford School Committee approved multiple administrative actions: three snow-removal service contracts, two naming-donation acceptances from the Sanford Schools Legacy Foundation, and a slate of personnel nominations and renewals.
Procurement: Business administrator Cheryl Fornier presented results of tri-annual snow-removal bids. The committee approved awarding Project 1 (Sanford High School and SRTC) to Tibbitz Farm for $78,000 in year one, $80,000 in year two and $82,000 in year three; Project 2 (Sanford Pride, Willard Memorial Gym, Sanford Middle School and Maintenance Building) to Southern Mainline Striping at $50,000 per year for three years; and Project 3 (Carl J. Lamb and Margaret Chase Smith) to HA Stone & Sons at $34,000 year one, $34,850 year two and $35,100 year three. Committee members noted the awards will save roughly $30,000 compared with budget estimates.
Donations and naming rights: The committee approved two motions to accept donations from the Sanford Schools Legacy Foundation to grant lifetime naming rights: the alternative learning suite at Sanford High School will be named for longtime teacher Karen Webb, and the backpack food storage area at Sanford High School will be named for volunteer Joselyn Hartford. Both motions were moved, seconded and approved.
Personnel: The committee announced multiple resignations and summer staffing appointments, approved a list of nominated professional staff for the 2026–27 school year (one-year probationary contracts), and approved administrator contract renewals across principals, assistant principals and directors. One member abstained from a renewal vote because of a family relationship; otherwise motions carried by voice vote.
Quotes: "We will be saving $30,000 compared to budget," Fornier said when presenting bid results. On the naming-donation motions, the board accepted both recommendations "as presented."
Next steps: Contracts will proceed per the terms approved; administration will finalize summer staffing and post final contract documents to the district procurement page.
