Council approves task order for design of Orangewood and Riverview lift-station bypass valving

Assistant Engineer Jacob Glick told the council the city proposed issuing a task order under its professional services agreement with Carollo Engineers to design bypass valving at the Orangewood and Riverview lift stations.
Glick said the two stations are high priority because of proximity to the California State Water Project (Orangewood) and the Feather River (Riverview) and to avoid the potential discharge of sewage during pump failures or extended outages.
When asked about station age, staff said upgrades dated to roughly the 1970s and that pump removals and remanufacturing can take months. Following brief questions and no public comment, a motion to approve the task order was made and the roll call showed the motion passed with six yes votes and one absent.
The task order was approved on first reading at the May 19 meeting; staff will proceed with engineering design work under the professional services agreement.
