Keaton said the station’s totals came from county recap sheets and that the numbers were unofficial. “These totals are unofficial. This is just what the county clerk has printed off,” he said, noting absentee ballots and state certification remain pending.
On the Republican side for county sheriff, the broadcast’s tally showed Kenneth Scarberry leading with 569 votes; Roger Benton and Jeffrey Smith trailed. On the Democratic sheriff ballot, John Paul Turner led with 896 votes against Anthony Gullet’s 500.
Local magistrate contests also showed apparent winners with all precincts reported in the station’s recap: Ray Atkins led in Magistrate District 3 (Wrigley/Ward 3) with 198 to incumbent Tommy Fannon’s 101, and Brandon Evans led the District 4 Democratic tally with 254 to Jenny Vest’s 84.
The station repeatedly cautioned that some ballots (absentee/paper) might not have been included in earlier rollups and that county clerks’ and the state’s counts are authoritative. Keaton said the station’s data keepers and field representatives were updating figures live as precincts reported.
