Seaford Union Free School District announces passed budget and posts vote tallies; candidates confirmed

The Seaford Union Free School District held a special meeting to read and reconcile vote tallies for two propositions, several candidate races and a library trustee contest. The board announced that the district budget has passed and congratulated candidates Ms. Matulitz and Mr. Sche.

Board members opened the meeting and the chair led the Pledge of Allegiance before staff proceeded to report machine-level and absentee ballot counts. Carmen, who read the tallies, announced machine results for Proposition 1 (examples given during the meeting included a machine result of 224 yes and 79 no and another of 176 yes and 68 no) and said absentee ballots were recorded separately (Harbor absentees were read as 16 yes and 13 no; Manor absentees were read as 15 yes and 3 no). Carmen also read machine tallies for Proposition 2 (examples included Manor 37640 at 237 yes and 53 no; Manor 37641 at 175 yes and 51 no; Harbor 37638 at 154 yes and 27 no; Harbor 37639 at 97 yes and 52 no) and noted absentee ballots were combined for final totals at the clerk’s reconciliation.

Carmen read vote totals for the candidate contest between two listed candidates, Jimmy and Trisha, by machine (for example, Manor machine 37640 showed Jimmy 185 and Trisha 182) and recited absentee and written-in counts that will require residency verification. For the library trustee race staff read machine counts (examples announced included Manor 37640 242 and Harbor 37639 223) and said there were 37 absentee ballots recorded for that contest.

The chair, speaking on behalf of the board and administration, thanked the community for its support and announced, "We have a passed budget, people. Congratulations, everybody." Board members also congratulated "Ms. Matulitz and Mr. Sche," whom the board acknowledged immediately after the tallying.

Meeting officials emphasized that the tallies reported publicly at the meeting were machine counts with absentee ballots added and that final certified totals would be recorded in the district’s official returns for the record. The meeting also included routine procedural actions (a motion to table agenda item 61, and a motion to approve multiple agenda items), and adjourned after the results were announced.

The district did not read a single consolidated, certified total for each proposition aloud during the meeting; the numbers reported at the meeting consisted of machine-by-machine counts and absentee tallies that staff said would be combined into final certified totals.
