Hoffman Estates proclaims May 16 Kids to Parks Day as renovated Vogelei Park reopens with ADA-accessible features

A Hoffman Estates Park District representative opened the ceremony at the restored park, describing it as "a labor of love" and thanking the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for an OSLAD grant that "turned this multi-million dollar project into more affordable" and provided $600,000 to the Hoffman Estates Park District.
The day also highlighted the park's new accessibility features. The Park District representative said the site is an "ADA fully inclusive park," and listed amenities that include an accessible playground, a bankshot area by the barn, bocce courts and a six-hole disc golf course with half the course designed to be fully inclusive and ADA capable. "We're so excited about this park," the Park District representative said, adding that a new splash pad would be turned on during the event.
A village official complimented the renovation work and the park district's long-term stewardship, noting renovations at the park about 25 years earlier and calling the district "gold medal winning."
The mayoral proclamation was read on behalf of the Village of Hoffman Estates. William D. McLeod, identified in the proclamation text, "do[es] hereby proclaim Saturday, May 16th, 2026 as Kids to Parks Day in the Village of Hoffman Estates," a statement that cited the National Park Trust's annual campaign to encourage families to visit parks and public lands. The proclamation urged outdoor activity to help address childhood obesity, diabetes, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia and encouraged residents and businesses to join the observance.
Speakers closed by inviting the public to use the park and noted the Hoffman Estates Park District oversees more than 80 parks in the village.
The ceremony combined a site reopening, funding acknowledgment and a mayoral proclamation; no motions or votes were recorded during the event.
