The Seaford School District board on May 19 approved the first reading of a revised policy on student cell phones and electronic devices, a policy the administration revised to reflect state guidance under SB 106.
Administration said the policy distinguishes expectations for elementary, middle and high schools and that students and educators were consulted during drafting; staff reported that high-school students unexpectedly requested some restrictions and that principals and school leadership teams reviewed drafts. "We will be working with Miss Brent and the principals in regards to getting word out," a district presenter said, describing a planned policy/regulation outreach campaign before the 2026–27 school year.
The policy is presented as the district policy text; regulations and operational details will be developed by staff and returned to the board for approval in June. The board approved the policy on first reading and directed staff to finalize accompanying regulations and an outreach plan to communicate the changes before classes begin.
