Ascension Parish President Mr. Quint announced that the parish government has loaned the Council on Aging $2 million at 4.4% interest for 10 years to build a new Council on Aging facility in Prairieville.
"We had over 60 volunteers. We did over 135 bags. We covered over seven miles," Quint said, summarizing the April 18 trash-bash. He also reported the May 9 household hazardous materials collection served 562 vehicles and collected 146 five-gallon buckets of paint. Quint described the Council on Aging project as "the first of its kind" partnership and said the facility will generate revenue to support parish recreation programs for seniors.
The council broke ground on the project the day before the meeting, Quint said, calling the loan an "innovative" financing step that will both provide a dedicated facility for seniors and generate funds for local programs such as organized social and recreational activities.
The loan was presented to the council as part of the Parish President's report; council members did not debate the report at length during that item. Quint thanked the council for its partnership in the project and extended congratulations to area graduates during his closing remarks.
Next steps include administrative steps to finalize the loan documentation and the Council on Aging proceeding with facility development; the transcript records the council receiving the report but does not list a separate, formal vote on the loan arrangement in this meeting.
