The Town of Wayne select board approved several routine items and heard updates on community events and projects.
The board approved previous meeting minutes and routine financial items, including accepting donations (one amount read as $12,795.34) and approving accounts payable #43 for $17,252.46. Staff explained line items including Thornton's Lawn Care payments for winter maintenance of White Road and a clerical travel reimbursement for the town clerk.
New-business approvals included authorizing up to $350 from contingency to fund the Comprehensive Plan Committee’s community survey (SurveyMonkey and distribution costs) and approving up to $1,444.51 from the fire department equipment reserve for wildland firefighting gear; the latter is matched by a grant that allows reimbursement up to $3,500.
Manager Shannon gave operational updates: street sweeping and line painting schedules, an incoming intern from the University of Maine at Augusta, the next select board meeting rescheduled to May 29, the June 9 election at the Lad Rec Center (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and the annual town meeting on June 10 (business portion to begin at 6 p.m.).
Board members also announced community events: an informational forum about closing elementary schools on May 27 at the Wayne church (also broadcast to Mount Vernon) and an Anderson Lake public forum on June 3 featuring consultant findings and ecological data collection updates. A personnel item (town manager performance appraisal) was discussed and the board agreed to hold an executive session to complete required contract appraisal steps. The meeting adjourned following a motion and voice vote.
