The Town of Summerfield Planning Board voted to recommend that the town council adopt an amendment to section 17-1108 of the unified development ordinance to tighten temporary feather-sign rules.
Staff said the council requested the change after increased enforcement of existing sign rules. Under the current text staff described, feather signs were treated as a temporary sign allowed up to 90 days per year (with a one-month maximum interval). The proposed amendment would reduce allowable display to 21 days and permit feather signs only during the first 30 days after a new business opens.
Board members motioned and seconded a recommendation to the council and recorded approval to forward the amendment. One member opposed the recommendation during the roll-call vote to forward the change to council; the board did not adopt the ordinance at the planning-board level — it recommended the amendment to the council, which will consider adoption.
The amendment, if adopted by the council, would narrow the circumstances under which feather signs may be used and shorten the allowable display period from the current practice described by staff.
