At their May 19, 2026 meeting, the Daly City Library Board discussed several initiatives aimed at expanding services and community access. Board members extensively discussed community-driven giving suggestions and identified three priority categories—lending items, programs/workshops, and equipment/furnishings. Trustees and staff expressed strong interest in piloting a 'library of things' focused on light gardening and hand tools, and in creating in-branch listening stations for CDs/DVDs where space permits. Staff raised practical constraints: liability, resident-only borrowing limits for tool lending, storage and space, and the need for staff time to define and manage projects.
Trustees supported program ideas including AI and job-search workshops, resume clinics and clubs for teens; they noted scheduling trade-offs between daytime senior programming and evening hours for working residents. Staff announced upcoming events and operational details: a home-buyer workshop on May 21, an AI/job-search workshop (hybrid), a Fix It Clinic on June 3 in partnership with Sonteo County sustainability volunteers, a short-form film screening at the Ceremony branch on June 9, and the summer learning program with reading logs and a $1,000 scholarship drawing.
Next steps: staff will formalize a recommendation that selects one suggested item from each category for staff to implement, will collect contact information to thank suggestion submitters, and will report back to the board on grant applications, partnership outreach and any scheduling developments with the City Council.
