District addresses HVAC malfunctions, summer maintenance and door-inspection fixes

The staff member also reported a recurring chiller shutdown at Riverview that forced an emergency cool-down before school hours. "The chiller has decided that on certain days it just doesn't want to work. It just wants to shut itself off," the staff member said, and crews were monitoring whether the cause is programming or internal equipment failure.
Buckeye and Mel Ridge were flagged for intermittent "hot spots" in classrooms after recent brief power outages. Staff said they are shutting down unit beds, adjusting outside air intake and watching whether backnet programming or system imbalance is responsible; the issue was placed on the summer priority list.
The committee heard that Cleveland Construction patched a buckled walkway at Riverview and resurfaced the CTX drive; leftover material was used to fill potholes in the campus driveway. Staff outlined other planned summer projects including seal coating campus areas, pothole repairs at Lemouth and Mel Ridge, curb painting and restriping, a July concrete walk installation at CTX and a mid-August three-week fieldhouse floor sanding and refinishing by Ohio Floors.
On safety inspections, the staff member said annual exterior door inspections performed under Senate Bill 112 found doors in "excellent condition" overall but identified internal adjustments (speed and closing rate) that maintenance will address. Committee members asked for the precise cost figures for summer staffing and the door inspections; staff said they would provide the numbers for the past two summers and noted some earlier confusion in the meeting about per-door versus total costs.
The meeting closed with several minor facilities items — coordination of temporary fence removal at Riverview, discussion of cleaning schedules before graduation and volunteers offering to clean or repair the sandstone and electronic signs at Riverside High School. The committee did not take a recorded vote during this update; items flagged for follow-up include targeted HVAC diagnostics, summer project scheduling and confirmed cost figures for summer staffing and door-inspection work.
