East Troy board approves July 3 fireworks permit for LD’s Barbecue with insurance and weather cancellation conditions

The East Troy Village Board voted to approve a fireworks‑use permit for LD’s Barbecue LLC (applicant Leon Davis) for July 3, subject to conditions set by staff and the fire department.
Danette, who presented staff’s memo, said the applicant agreed to withdraw mortar shells and use only 1.4G consumer‑grade “cakes” limited to roughly 50 feet in height and planned to set off the display near the dog park at the back of the property. “Originally, there was mortars, and he is going to withdraw the mortars and only use the 1.4G cakes,” Danette said. Staff also required a certificate of insurance similar to other local events.
Chief Dagaro said his primary concern was the proximity of two gas stations and that, after speaking with the proposed pyrotechnician, the parties agreed on types of devices that present “pretty minimal” risk. “My concern was obviously the two gas stations within close proximity,” Chief Dagaro said; he confirmed the department would have authority to cancel the display for high winds or other unsafe conditions.
Trustees moved and seconded a motion to approve the permit with the fire chief’s conditions and proof of insurance; the motion carried. Trustees asked staff to ensure the dog park would be cleared and that residents would be warned in advance.
