Board approves series of construction and supply contracts, awarding lowest bids

The Moody County Board of Education on May 21 approved a package of procurement motions covering construction, renovation and supplies across the district.
Board members voted to accept the low bid from K L B Construction for a bus-stop expansion and to authorize a contract with K L B Construction for a bus shop extension. The board also approved the low bid from American Paper One for the district’s copy paper procurement and accepted Barnes and Brower’s bid for a football-field drainage improvement project at South Aiken High School. Additional approvals included Barnes and Brower for other pavement and site projects, YBOA and Sons Construction for gymnasium and locker-room renovations, and Murphy and Sons for elementary restroom renovations.
Each item was presented with a staff recommendation, motions were made, and votes were taken without extended discussion. Several motions passed by voice vote; where recorded, the board noted unanimous or near-unanimous approval (minutes record instances of "the ayes have it" and multiple "nine out of nine" results for certain items). The board did not discuss significant amendments to the contracts at the meeting.
