Board honors 37 biliteracy seal graduates and multiple state athletic champions

The Moody County Board of Education opened its May 21 meeting by recognizing student achievement across academics and athletics. Stephanie Marley, the district’s director of English learners, told the board the district has 37 graduates who earned either the gold or silver seal of biliteracy "in six different languages," and noted the seal can translate into college credit and signals bilingual, biliterate skills to employers.
Principals and coaches from multiple high schools then introduced state athletic champions. Mr. Jason Smith and other principals named individual winners in powerlifting, track and field and other spring sports, and Dr. Bobby Davis and Sergeant Major Thomas Herm highlighted Lake Cormorant’s consecutive powerlifting championships. Coaches said several athletes were back-to-back state champions and invited teams and families to join group photos.
Board members and staff thanked students, coaches and families and closed the recognition segment before moving to regular business. No formal board action was taken on the recognitions; the presentations were ceremonial.
