Board approves seasonal fireworks sales tent permit at Union Road site

The Cheektowaga Board of Appeals on May 20 approved a temporary outdoor‑sales permit for American Promotional Events, which does business as TNT Fireworks, to operate a seasonal sales tent at 3825–3865 Union Road.

Frank Dusi, who identified himself as a representative of American Promotional Events, told the board the operation sells New York state–legal sparkling devices (ground‑based sparklers) and that the vendor has previously operated at the site in 2024. He described the typical schedule: tents delivered mid‑June, sales beginning June 20 (the earliest date state law permits sale of those devices) and suspending July 5. Dusi said the company uses locked storage containers overnight, hires overnight security, and equips the tent with required exit signage and fire extinguishers to meet inspections.

Board members asked about hours and security; Dusi said normal hours would be 9 a.m.–9 p.m., with the containers locked at night and security monitoring the site. After public comment (none opposed at the meeting), Mr. Young moved and Mrs. Amber seconded a motion to grant a temporary permit; the board approved the motion. The permit term recorded by the board ends Dec. 31, 2028.

Why it matters: Seasonal fireworks sales draw public safety and neighborhood concerns—particularly around storage, display and security—so the board required standard safety controls and noted that operations must comply with New York state law governing sale dates.
