District staff and the director of business services presented numbers they said drove the recommendation. Patrick, the district’s director of business services, told the board projected revenue for the Lakeside programs was about $1,295,360 versus budgeted expenses of about $1,285,360 and that a 9% increase was roughly the scenario that would bring the program to break‑even under conservative assumptions. Staff said a Fab Lab‑type matching grant is being pursued to offset equipment costs for other programs, but the Lakeside fund must be able to cover recurring operating costs without diverting general education dollars.
Trustees debated options including delaying a decision, smaller incremental increases and whether to apply a single percentage across infant–3K, 4K wrap and 5K–5th wrap services. After motions and amendments on the floor, the board approved a 7% increase; the motion to amend to 7% passed on the floor and the following approval vote carried.
Board members acknowledged the tradeoffs. Several trustees said they were reluctant to push large increases that could stress families and staff, but others said a more modest raise risked requiring district subsidy later. The board directed staff to return any follow‑up answers requested by trustees and to communicate changes and timelines to affected families.
The decision applies to Lakeside Academy fee schedules; staff said they will publish the implementation date and procedures for families and will continue to monitor enrollment and costs going forward.
