Patrick Henry of the Assessor's Office told the board the office expects a personnel shift when he becomes Assessor and that the senior appraiser would move into the chief role, creating two appraiser vacancies. "We have three very good applicants, and we would like to hire two of them as soon as possible because our recruitment efforts... have been meager at best," Henry said, urging the board to "strike while the iron is hot."
Supervisors pressed staff on the longer-term budget effects of upgrading an appraiser tech position to a certified appraiser (the difference was described as roughly a 10% salary range difference from a UPEC 15 to a UPEC 17). County staff said the current budget can absorb the change but that future budget cycles will reflect the increased costs. The board voted to fund one FTE appraiser technician and one FTE assistant appraiser; the motion was made by Aaron and seconded by Jason and passed by voice vote.
What happens next: Human resources and the Assessor's Office will complete recruitments and report back to the board as positions are filled.
