Bowmont ISD board approves superintendent contract and several school reorganizations

School reorganization and calendar actions
The administration recommended closing Paul A. Brown Learning Center due to low enrollment and to return credit'recovery instruction to the two high school campuses so students retain access to electives, athletics and on-campus supports; the board voted unanimously to approve the closure effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year. Administration explained that credit-recovery programming will be expanded at the home high schools.
The board approved a recommendation to separate Peach MacArthur PK-8 into two distinct campuses (Peach MacArthur Elementary and South Park Middle School). Administration said the campus already functions with two building areas and administrators and that separate school status will allow targeted improvement efforts; the motion passed unanimously.
Finally, the board approved a revision to the 2026-27 academic calendar: the district will add professional development days in September and November to support the instructional transformation while keeping 175 student contact days by removing two previously scheduled teacher workdays (October and March); the calendar change passed unanimously.
