The Oregon City Commission on May 20 approved $12,000 in city‑sponsored public event grants to two local events: the Oregon City Car Show (scheduled for Memorial Day weekend) and the First City Celebration (downtown event on July 25).
Economic development staffer Ann Griffin summarized the applications and said the car show has grown to about 150 registered cars and is expected to draw roughly 3,000 visitors. Organizer Cyrus Sani described family‑friendly activities, vendor partnerships and a tourism focus. Juliana Allen, executive director of the Downtown Oregon City Association, spoke online about the First City Celebration, which organizers expect to attract 6,000–7,000 attendees and whose total cost is roughly $58,000.
“Between car groups and vendor partnerships we’re hoping to introduce a lot of visitors to the town,” Cyrus Sani said, adding the event sells out and contributes to downtown tourism. The commission approved the two grants; staff said grant recipients would be asked to include the city’s tourism logo and provide promotional materials.
Next steps: staff to issue grant agreements and monitor event logistics and signage commitments.
