The Parks and Waterfront committee reported that it had passed a resolution asking the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation to research and present community alternatives to the temporary police-owned 'French' barricades currently used to close parks each day.
A committee member described a long discussion and said the resolution requests that Parks produce alternatives for community review. "The resolution we wrote was requesting the Department of Parks and Recreation produce and present alternatives to the French barricade system that's currently employed," the committee member said during the meeting.
The committee characterized the action as a request for DPR to undertake both the effort and expense of developing options and bringing them back to the community. The committee delivery noted the resolution was approved at the committee level; the Executive Committee reported that action during its standing reports.
The issue will remain with Parks and Waterfront for follow-up; the committee did not report a formal vote tally in the Executive Committee transcript.
