Brookshire council approves about $1.1M in Hov Park upgrades funded with sales tax proceeds

Brookshire City Council approved the Economic Development Corporation’s recommended package of improvements at Hov Park, authorizing the use of sales tax proceeds to fund multiple projects estimated at approximately $1.1–$1.2 million.
Staff described the scope: new bleachers and player seating around multiple fields, pedestal and picnic tables at pavilion areas, replacement benches, playground safety surfacing and equipment repairs, full resurfacing and re-striping of two basketball courts with conversion of one area to pickleball courts, upgrades to the volleyball area (beach volleyball), concrete work around the baseball fields, and drainage cleanouts and regrading to address persistent ponding after rain events. Staff said EDC funds are on hand to pay for the work and that public works crews have already started some drainage cleanup and grading.
Council members emphasized improving park quality and safety and voted to approve the funding and projects. Staff said contractors and design details will be brought forward to implement the scope and that park upgrades are intended to support quality-of-life and economic-development goals tied to community programming.
Work includes both capital improvements and drainage items; staff said some drainage work has already begun and that additional construction and procurement steps will follow.
