Simon Shomette, managing director of the Solid Waste Disposal District, presented annual CPI adjustments to vendor contracts that include yard‑waste processing (Atlas Organics), the Heartland evaporator system (Indian River Sustainability Center), landfill and convenience‑center operations (Republic Services/Waste Management), and transport of recyclables (Bulk Express). The requested percentage adjustments — driven by the applicable CPI index months in each contract — ranged from about 1.22% to 1.42% depending on the vendor and contract cycle.
Shomette said the district will fold the adjustments into budget preparation; commissioners moved and approved the CPI updates.
What’s next: staff will include the approved CPI adjustments in the Solid Waste Disposal District budget and notify vendors of the confirmed rates for the upcoming cycle.
