Deputy County Attorney Susan Protto told the board the county must hold a biennial hearing and adopt updated interlocal agreements and code language to comply with Florida statute for the 6‑cent local option gas (fuel) tax. Protto said all five municipalities had signed the new interlocal agreements and the proposals update dates and the method of distributing the tax revenue.
Protto noted that the existing 30‑year agreement would expire Aug. 31, 2026, and that statute (she cited Florida Statute 336.025) requires certain calculations by June 1 for distribution. The board opened the item for public comment; no one requested to speak. A commissioner moved to adopt the ordinance changes to sections 209.03 and 209.04 and to approve the updated interlocal agreements; the motion was seconded, the board voted in favor, and the motion carried.
What’s next: staff will implement the updated distribution method and file necessary notices; the adopted ordinance and executed interlocal agreements will govern the local option gas tax distribution through the new agreement term.
