Local nonprofit pitches 'Wonderful World of Salt' museum for downtown Grand Saline

Tracy Brantley, director of fundraising for a newly formed nonprofit, told the Grants Lane City Council she and her board are developing an interactive 'Wonderful World of Salt' museum to celebrate the town's salt heritage and to draw regional tourism.

"We're not here to ask you for squat," Brantley said, adding the group is working toward IRS recognition and already has a website and social-media presence. She outlined plans for an exhibit that would serve children and students and said local businesses and regional partners have expressed support.

Brantley named several volunteer leaders on the board, including president Nancy Ralph and secretary Judy Lane, and said supporters such as Bedrock and Millers have pledged backing and building access. She emphasized the group's immediate goal is to raise visibility and organize the board rather than request municipal funding.

Council members thanked Brantley for the presentation and accepted the informational packet into the public record. No formal action or funding request was made at the meeting; the council took no vote on the museum proposal.

The presentation drew attention to downtown redevelopment and tourism as part of broader economic-development conversations; Brantley said the project's initial outreach will cover multiple counties in the region.
