Police report multiagency fentanyl seizure, two arrests

Police Chief Mike Smith told the Golden City Council that officers executed a May 14, 2026 narcotics search warrant inside the city and seized about 300 grams of fentanyl along with other drugs, and arrested two suspects.

Smith said the investigation was a multiagency effort involving the Golden Police Department, the county sheriff’s office and an out-of-state surveillance partner. He identified the arrestees in the transcript as Brian Milberger and Carly Na and said they were taken into custody on charges of delivering a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. Given the amount of fentanyl, Smith said federal charges are possible.

Smith described the seized fentanyl as a powder rather than pill form and stressed the danger of small quantities: “a couple little grains would kill a person,” he said. He added that the operation proceeded without injury and that the interagency coordination was successful.

Separately, Smith briefed the council on a carjacking that began on a highway and returned into city limits. He said officers coordinated with the Washington State Patrol and the county sheriff’s office, executed a felony stop and assisted in apprehending a suspect who had taken a vehicle. He urged residents to be cautious about picking up hitchhikers.

The chief said the department is continuing its investigation; he did not announce any convictions or case dispositions at the meeting. The city indicated it may refer aspects of the case for federal review because of the quantity of fentanyl involved.
