DHHL enforcement unit reports increase in investigations, describes recent Hiloa property clearance

Hul reported 21 requests for investigations during the window, bringing the calendar‑year total to 57, and said 26 reports were submitted in the same period (121 for the year). The unit also sent two official correspondences to beneficiaries about active investigations and conducted outreach to farmers and community groups.
Hul described a recent operation to secure a property in Himea after staff received video evidence alleging drug use and violence at a homestead parcel. The enforcement unit coordinated with the county sheriff’s department — which provided deputies — to clear the residence. "We actually went in and cleared the house. There's clearly drug use in the home," Hul said, adding that the operation required significant manpower and interagency coordination.
Commissioners voiced support for a proactive approach, framed as zero tolerance for drug‑related criminal activity on homesteads, and urged beneficiaries to report concerns to enforcement. Hul said the unit continues beneficiary outreach, contested case preparation, and interagency work to provide services to displaced residents when cleanups are necessary.
No contested‑case outcomes were finalized during the presentation; the report was heard for information and follow‑up steps will be handled by enforcement staff.
