Taylor County approves early termination of Century contract and transitions 911 EMS to Survival Flight starting Dec. 2

Taylor County commissioners approved a set of contract amendments, a short lease and a transfer of the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (COPCN) to allow Survival Flight EMS to begin countywide 911 ambulance service on Dec. 2, 2025, one day earlier than the originally scheduled January transition.
County staff presented the required documents: a mutual termination of Century Ambulance's current contract effective Dec. 1, 2025; an amendment to Survival Flight's contract to change its start date to Dec. 2 and add a $250,000 performance bond requirement; a commercial lease for a firehouse location (monthly rent $400) to host the EMS base; and a county action to transfer/issue the COPCN to Survival Flight for countywide service. The board approved each item by roll call or voice votes as appropriate.
Representatives said the transition plan includes retaining the majority of Century's staff; Survival Flight reported staffing at approximately 90% of planned levels with additional personnel onboarding scheduled. Century's representative thanked the county and said the companies had cooperated throughout the transition. County attorneys and administrators confirmed documentation and bond requirements would be completed before the effective date.
Next steps: Survival Flight will begin 911 coverage at 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 2, staff will confirm receipt of the bond and finalize all contract paperwork, and the county will oversee a short transition period to monitor staffing and response levels.
