Superintendent highlights centennial events; trustees recognized with statewide awards

During the May 19 meeting the superintendent provided a brief update celebrating the district's centennial events and recognized two trustees for completed professional learning.
The superintendent said the centennial included a student-produced centennial video from Kyle Cena's film club, a student artwork display and a film screening open to the community. Board members praised the collaborative effort and discussed making the film available on the district website and through community screenings. "We have so much footage...he deserves it," a board member said of teacher Kyle Cena and the film club's work.
The superintendent presented two awards from the New York State School Boards Association: the Board Excellence Award to Trustee Corey Boudin for accruing over 150 professional development points, and the Board Achievement Award to President Emilia Silverman for accruing more than 75 points. The superintendent framed the recognitions as examples of board members modeling lifelong learning for students.
The superintendent also reminded the public that polls for the annual budget vote and board election were open until 9:00 p.m. that evening and encouraged community participation. A centennial gala was announced for May 30 with tickets available via a Centennial link on the district website; the superintendent offered an email contact (Michael Chombly) for navigation assistance.
